St Raphael School Badyar
In 1940, St Raphael's Higher Primary School in Thenkakaranduru (Badyar) was established by the late Fr L. M. Pinto and his brother, the late Peter Paul Pinto. In 1943, the school became part of the Mangalore Catholic Education Board. The school began as a lower primary school in a small hut on the land of Dr Pinto, with the primary aim of educating the backward rural population. The institution's goal was to make the rural populace literate, following the adage "Education is Power, Education Leads to Freedom." The mission to provide education to children in rural areas continued. The late Koragappa Poojary was the first headmaster. The school, which started with just 25 students, gradually advanced along the path of progress. In 1985, the 5th grade was introduced, followed by the 6th and 7th grades in 1986, transforming it into a higher primary school. As the number of students increased, Rev. Fr Gerald Isaac Lobo, the then spiritual leader and director, constructed a new building to meet the growing needs. Subsequent directors and headmasters have successfully led the school on the path of progress. In 2015, the school celebrated its Amrit Mahotsav (Platinum Jubilee), marking a significant milestone. Currently, Rev. Fr Roshan Crasta serves as the director, and Mrs. Jacinta M. Lobo is the headmistress, both of whom are managing the school's responsibilities.
