Badyar is 63 kms away to the east of Mangalore in Belthangady taluk. On the route from Mangalore to Dharmastala there is a junction called Gurvayanakere, and from this junction 2 kms to the north is Badyar. It is a small village. Sr Ena and Sr Roshel were the first to step in to this soil from our congregation. They were well acquainted as they were here for Sunday catechism from Mangalore. They were visiting Christian community after catechism every Sunday and impart compassionate love of Jesus to them. They used to stay with the Ursuline Sisters at Belthangady and come to Badyar everyday. Sr Ena worked in the health centre most of the time with Christian community. Though people poor but they were rich in heart . The children were educated and even we had some vocations from Badyar. Here we have a Primary school run by the Catholic Board of Education
The first community was erected on 31st May 1984 in the presbytery of Rev Fr Gerald Lobo now the Bishop of Udupi. On 4th January, 1998 Sr. Mabel started the ‘Open school’ for the school dropouts. St Raphael’s Higher Primary school, of Catholic Board of Education took keen interest in the all round development of the students. Sr Ena was the first Superior at Badyar. For the new convent building foundation stone was laid by M. Sylvine Superior General on 12th 1986. On 31st Oct 1987 the convent building was ready. The Sisters make family visits frequently. The cordial relationship that was built by the pioneers is still maintained by the sisters through their participation in Small Christian Community meetings and prayer services on various occasions. It is privilege to serve the least and the lost according to the vision of our Fr. Founder, to bring Christ to all people.
